Q & A
1. What does your organization do in the energy transition?
Norwegian Energy Partners (NORWEP) is an organisation with a clearly defined objective: to support and assist in the internationalisation of the Norwegian energy industry. We are acting as a catalyst for processes between Norwegian industry and international businesses and governments.
2. Why did you agree to get involved in the Lisbon Energy Summit?
Portugal is aiming high with its ambitious plans and impeccable timing, striving to achieve a remarkable goal of 10 GW of offshore wind power by 2030. The initial auction for sea area licenses is anticipated to take place before end of the year.
The country offers rich commercial opportunities, benefiting from excellent wind conditions and boasting one of Europe's largest sea areas. To tap into this potential, developers are focusing on floating wind farms, which are deemed to be the most viable approach. Notably, the Norwegian supply chain aligns perfectly with Portugal's efforts, presenting promising synergies.
3. What is one thing as an industry/society we can do today to move the needle on accelerating the transition?
Cross-country cooperation is essential to accelerating the energy transition as it enables nations to pool resources, share knowledge, and collectively tackle global challenges. By prioritizing and investing in renewables together, countries can create a more sustainable and resilient energy landscape while fostering innovation and technology exchange.
To expedite the energy transition, governments must prioritize and invest in renewables, incentivizing the growth of clean energy industries. By opening up for fair competition, diverse players can enter the market, driving efficiency, reducing costs, and ultimately delivering affordable and eco-friendly energy solutions to communities worldwide.
